Underground Hypnosis – Hype? Or Real Influencing Power?
“Underground Hypnosis” by Taylor Starr is one of the best-known conversational hypnosis courses and certainly the one that has received the most hype over the 5+ years that it has carved itself a market reputation.
The Underground Hypnosis home page (click here to view) tells a rather exotic story of how Starr infiltrated a secret society of the world’s most powerful hypnotists, mastered their secrets and is now sharing them via his book despite great personal risk to himself!
Whether you believe this tall tale is up to you – certainly one of the techniques of underground hypnosis is to create confusion in order to open the listener/reader up to suggestion and this story does just that. Whether this was the intention or not, the question remains – Is Taylor Starr’s “Underground Hypnosis” an over hyped “lemon” or is it the “goose that laid the golden egg?”
The book is certainly written with sensationalism in mind but having researched and used conversational hypnosis in my own business development career as a recruitment executive, I can say that Starr’s course does include some meaty gems that anyone in a sales, business or marketing role would be mad to miss.
Some of his most powerful techniques include:
- The “Iron Man” – this is an essential weapon for anyone who wants to “close a deal” without doubt in the client’s mind. It involves making yourself seem powerful, knowledgeable and ultra-confident to the point where others feel overwhelmed by you.
Any professional who hopes to win a pay rise or a lucrative job offer, get a prospect to buy from them, or convince anyone of their worth needs to appear as an expert at the top of their game. It is not just knowledge that convinces us that someone is an expert. In fact in the short space of a meeting we see very little of someone’s knowledge and if we are unfamiliar with the topic we have only one way to know whether someone truly “knows what they are talking about”.
We make a judgement about their manner and their confidence. If they do not hesitate in any way, use the right phrases and seem “cool” and in control as they present to us, we subconsciously decide that they are the “expert” that we need. Who wouldn’t want to fulfil their need for a product with someone who is “the best” at what they do?
